REFF is an annual experimental film event that began in 2008 as a co-curatorial project between Philip Newcombe and Edmund Harcourt..

Regular features included screenings curated by Newcombe, installations, new commissions, guest curators, talks and music to film.

Whilst the event showed work from artists who exhibited internationally, it maintained strong links with a growing local interest in artists film.

REFF’s first commission was Mark Waller’s ‘Karpouziaaa’ (right) in 2009, which has enjoyed a number of subsequent screenings including at the Jerwood Gallery (curated by Marcus Coates)

Subsequent commissions include Emma Hart, Wai Yan Chan, Simon Raven and Kirk Palmer.

Curated programmes have shown an eclectic range of artists including Mark Lecky, John Russell, George Barber, Aurelien Froment, Laure Provost, Annika Strom

Karpouziaaa was funded by Arts Council England.
